GRANDPA'S POETRY

WHENCE IS MAN??

Come one, come all, and listen
While I tell a mystery,
You’ll find out about yourself
We’ll start with History.

The things I tell are true and free,
So don’t dig in your purse:
Let me tell, of the abode of God
In the center of the Universe.

Now this is where all men came from
They lived with parents there;
Oh what a happy family
With parents loving care.

God watched, with loving eyes
His sons and daughters grow
For their continued progress
He made the earth below.

He called them in to council
To teach the plan he had;
To send us down to earth awhile
To test for good or bad.

Who shall I send, to save the world
And carry out my plan,
To sacrifice, to give his life,
For all the sins of man?

Two spirit children volunteered,
The first was Christ, then Satan.
Speak up my sons, what is your plan
Everyone is waiting’>

Free agency to Man, the first replied,
To choose the wrong or right,
And all the glory will be thine,
I’ll work with all my might.

The Second said, I’ll force all men
To never pull a boner,
They’ll all return, by my great plan,
So give to me thine honor.

The first was chosen and ordained,
He was of Royal birth!
Old Satan and the third that followed,
Were then cast down to earth.

My valiant friends, you all were there,
God’s plan you did uphold;
But those who followed Satan’s plan,
Were cut off from the fold.

The time passed by so quickly,
It came your time to go;
Parents were preparing for you,
On the earth below.

The veil was drawn across your mind,
All former memory gone;
In this old world, it’s faith my friend
We must depend upon.

Innocent before the Lord,
Not capable of sin;
Not until the age of eight
Does our real test begin.

The Lord gives us four principles,
To serve as anchor post;
Faith, Repentance, Baptism,
And the gift of the Holy Ghost.

The Ten Commandments, prayer and study,
Of these things become aware;
Tithes and offerings, Word of Wisdom,
Keeps you out of Satan’s snare.

Every man should hold the Priesthood,
And should exercise the same,
To preach the gospel, fulfill his duties,
And to heal the sick and lame.

Missionaries called by the Prophet,
Sent to lands both far and near;
So that every tongue and nation,
The gospel of repentance hear.

In the temple, at the alter,
Man and Woman on their knees;
Married not for this time only,
But throughout eternities.

These are homes in preparation,
For choice spirits from above;
Soon they’ll be a happy family,
Close knit and bound with love.

The babies cry at two a.m.,
The children throwing things;
The teenager tall and gangly,
Soon to cut the apron strings.

Soon it’s Grandpa or Grandma,
As the case may be;
And upon them falls the duty,
Of the genealogy.

To do the work of those departed,
Who ne’r heard the gospel preached;
But spirit world missionaries,
Surely those dear souls have reached.

Baptism and endowments,
By the proxy must be done;
In the Temples of the Father,
In the name of Christ, his son.

Then death comes calling at the door
To claim your life, his plan;
Then comes the parting of the body
And the spirit of a man.

The body, you are well aware,
Is lowered in the sod;
But the separated spirit
Is taken home to God.

To receive a partial judgement
From Christ, the Lord who’s risen;
To rest from troubles in paradise
Or consigned to spirit prison.

This is our state in the spirit world
Until Resurrection day;
There’s still some time for repentance
But it’s the hardest way.

Graves unlocked and opened
It is the Lord’s endeavor;
Flesh and bone and spirit one,
Death is gone forever.

Everyone an immortal soul
Different glory has each one;
Some the gory of the stars, or moon
And some that of the Sun.

On Judgement day, each person,
A full account must give:
Of the works of his probation
And the way that he did live.

On Judgment day, you can not say
Today I will repent,
For the works all done there is to do
To lower Kingdom you’ll be sent.

But, if he followed the commandments
And held to the iron rod;
He’ll enter the Celestial Kingdom
To become like unto God.

To live with joy and happiness
Forever with his wife;
They’ve continuation of the seeds,
To organize human life.

But if on Earth, by crafty men
This poor soul was misled;
Into the Terrestrial Kingdom
He will be sent instead.

To live with Christ, a single life
Is what he has in store;
His wife and children taken away
Their not his any more.

Sorcerers, Adulterers and whoremongers,
And whoever loves to lie;
Enter the Telestial Kingdom,
Their  glories rather shy!

Face to face they’ll ne’r meet again
The Father nor his son;
Remorse; forever remembering
What they should have done.

With Satan and his angels
The son of perdition goes;
They’re cast into outer darkness
Their torment no man knows.

In these four places, forever lives
Every Tom, Dick and Ben;
Now this is the end of my story,
For now I’ll say, Amen.
